I'm currently running a setup that includes an H610 motherboard, an Intel i5 14600k CPU, 16 GB and 8 GB of DDR4 RAM at 2400 MHz, and an RTX 2060 GPU, all powered by a 550W PSU. I've recently upgraded my CPU from a 9400f to the 14600k because I found a great deal. However, I'm aware that my motherboard isn't ideally suited for it. If I were to switch to a Z790 motherboard, I'd need to invest in DDR5 RAM, which is quite pricey. I haven't been able to locate a Z790 motherboard that supports DDR4. Given the costs involved, it seems like I could just upgrade to an RTX 5070 or 5060 Ti instead. I'm wondering if I should prioritize the GPU upgrade or if sticking with this motherboard and slower RAM will lead to throttling or bottleneck issues in my gaming. Right now, I can comfortably play most AAA games at 1080p with medium to high settings, but I'm looking to upgrade to 1440p resolution and higher settings for newer titles in the future.

First off, what's your budget for the upgrade? Honestly, the RTX 2060 is likely the main bottleneck in your setup, even with your RAM situation. I suggest upgrading your GPU first, and then consider boosting your RAM or motherboard later. By the way, is your RAM running in dual-channel mode? You mentioned having a mix of an 8GB and a 16GB stick, which could be affecting performance. Just a thought!
Make sure those sticks work well together. Mismatched sticks can limit performance. You want them to sync up correctly!
If you're looking at GPUs, definitely consider the RTX 5070 or higher. I don’t know much about Intel motherboards, but in your case, upgrading the GPU seems like the way to go. Just keep in mind that your current setup might hold you back a bit for future gaming, especially if you plan on jumping into 1440p. You might also want to look into RAM later on, just to make sure you're not hitting any speed limitations!
I've been in a similar situation before. If you're leaning towards that GPU upgrade, I'd say go for it! The difference in performance will be noticeable, especially if you're moving to higher resolutions. It'll also let you enjoy better graphics in the newer games. You can always upgrade the motherboard and RAM when budget allows.

For RAM, I have 1 x 8GB at 2400MHz and 1 x 16GB at the same speed. My budget for upgrades is around $500-600.
