PC Won’t Display After Motherboard Installation

I recently got a new AMD motherboard for my computer, and my brother-in-law helped me with the installation. Just before putting it in, he noticed I was using an Intel CPU and pointed out that they aren't compatible, so we left everything as it was but made a few minor adjustments for better airflow. After reassembling, my PC was working fine until I locked it and went to have dinner. When I returned, it wouldn't wake up from sleep; the monitor showed no display, and my mouse wasn't responding even though it was plugged in. I tried rebooting multiple times, unplugging and replugging everything, and even switching HDMI ports, but nothing helped. The PC powers up but has no display, and the mouse seems dead. I'm worried something went wrong during the original setup, but I'd appreciate any suggestions to troubleshoot this issue.

It sounds like your computer might not be fully powering on if it only stays on for a moment. First, you should check that all the power connections to the motherboard are secure, especially if your brother-in-law made adjustments. If all connections look good, try resetting the CMOS battery on the motherboard; it's a small battery that could sometimes fix boot issues. And don’t forget to double-check that all components, like RAM and the GPU, are seated properly.

Good idea on checking the connections! It could also be worth looking at whether the motherboard is grounding properly or if any screws were left out that could cause short circuits.

If the mouse isn't powering on, it might actually be a USB issue. Make sure you have plugged it into a working port, preferably one connected directly to the motherboard rather than through a hub. Sometimes a faulty USB port can cause devices to be unresponsive.

I checked all of that, and the mouse definitely works fine on another computer. I really think something went wrong when I reassembled everything.
