What’s the Interview Process Like Nowadays?

I've been with my current job for about 3.5 years and feel it's time to seek a new challenge. However, I've noticed that AI has changed things quite a bit. I'm curious, how much has the interview process evolved during this period? I usually found interviews frustrating, with questions that seemed random or overly complicated, like those the interviewers picked up from random YouTube channels, or bizarre technical deep dives that don't really relate to what we do. Don't get me started on coding tests that require using obscure platforms without basic tools like autocomplete!

When it comes to strength and physics, there's a clear difference in how body size impacts it. Strength increases with muscle area (which scales with the square of the dimensions), while mass increases with the volume (scaling with the cube). So if you're going by physics principles, you might be missing some details in your reasoning.

Based on what I've heard, brace yourself for some truly bizarre questions in interviews today. Like this one from a top 5 company: "If you were shrunk to the size of a nickel and trapped in a blender set to puree you, how would you escape?" The 'solution' they wanted was to jump out, claiming smaller things can jump higher because they weigh less. But c'mon, that logic is just off. When I challenged that by asking if someone of normal size could jump out of a giant blender, it just didn’t make sense. It's frustrating how these nonsensical questions became a staple in interviews!

I see your point, but jumping out of a big blender might still not work because smaller creatures have a better power-to-weight ratio.

This style of question was all the rage around 15 years ago. After Google revealed that these questions didn't actually predict job performance, companies started moving away from them. They were meant to challenge people's problem-solving skills, but honestly, they just became a lot of dead-weight questions.
