I have an HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop with an Intel Core i5-9300H, NVIDIA GTX 1050, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD. Recently, I noticed that my laptop drastically slows down when it's plugged into power, but it runs perfectly fine on battery. This started happening out of the blue and despite my attempts to fix it, like looking into power plan settings, nothing seems to help. I really don't want to go through expensive repairs or replacements! Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?

This is a pretty common issue with HP Pavilions, and it can be a bit confusing. When your laptop slows down while plugged in, it's usually not a virus, but rather a hardware protection feature. Here are a few things to check:
1. **BD PROCHOT Glitch**: This happens when the laptop falsely thinks it's overheating and throttles the CPU speed down to prevent damage. You can use a tool called ThrottleStop to check this. Just be careful when making changes.
2. **Power Adapter Issues**: Sometimes there’s a problem with the charger itself, such as a bent pin. Make sure your BIOS isn't showing an 'Unknown AC Adapter' warning.
3. **Power Management Settings**: Look in your power options to ensure that your processor state isn’t set weirdly when plugged in.
Lastly, check Task Manager while plugged in to see what the CPU speed is showing. If it’s sitting at around 0.8 GHz, that’s likely your issue.
If your laptop slows down while plugged in, it might just be a wrong setting. Have you looked at your BIOS settings? Sometimes there can be options that affect performance based on power source. Also, when did this issue start?
It started a few months back, but I didn't really pay attention to it because of school work. I think I might have tried accessing the BIOS, but I'm not sure how.

I tried using ThrottleStop, but it said it's not compatible with my laptop. The charger pin looks fine. I’ll check the other settings, but my CPU drops to around 0.8 when plugged in and goes back to normal when I unplug it.
