Considering Switching to Linux for Gaming and Drawing – Need Advice!

Hello everyone! I'm a bit new to Linux and I'm seriously considering making the switch from Windows. I've been pretty frustrated with Microsoft lately, especially with their push for unnecessary AI features. I've heard Linux can outperform Windows in many ways. However, I'm a gamer and I often play online games like Zenless Zone Zero, Where Winds Meet, and Overwatch. I've heard mixed things about gaming on Linux, and I'm also concerned because I use Clip Studio Paint for my digital art, which I know isn't available on Linux. I've seen some positive mentions of CachyOS, and I'd love to know if this is a viable option for my needs. Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated!

CachyOS is a solid choice, but keep in mind that it’s based on Arch, which can be a bit challenging for newcomers. While it makes things a bit easier, you’ll probably need to dive into documentation for more complex tasks. For casual gaming and browsing, you should be fine, but more advanced configurations might require you to refer to the ArchWiki for better guidance.

If you're looking for something more user-friendly, I'd suggest trying Fedora instead. You can pick between Gnome for a sleek, simpler interface or KDE if you prefer something that resembles Windows. Just be cautious about Clip Studio Paint since it’s not natively supported. You might need to run a Windows VM or delve into Wine/Proton, but switching software could disrupt your workflow if you're currently used to CSP.

For gaming compatibility, ProtonDB is a great resource to check for specific game support on Linux. You might also consider dual-booting so you can gradually make adjustments without fully committing to Linux right away. Good luck on your journey!

Just a heads up: if a game doesn’t work on Linux, it's usually not going to work on any distro since they all share the same kernel. CachyOS being Arch-based is a bit more advanced, so you might hit some bumps. If you want something more straightforward for gaming, consider something like Bazzite or even a more general distro like Fedora or Mint.

As for Clip Studio Paint, there are alternatives like Krita, but I totally get that you might not want to switch. I've heard some users have found ways to run CSP on Linux, so definitely look into that! And don't forget to check compatibility for your games on sites like 'areweanticheatyet.com' and 'protondb.com'.

This forum has great resources for choosing the right distro, so make sure you check those out too!

I really don't want to switch from CSP since I've invested a lot into it, but I’ve heard that some folks are successfully getting the latest versions to work on Linux. I’ll look into that—thank you for the tip!

Yeah, I’m aware that Zenless Zone Zero has some compatibility through a third-party launcher, but it does require a special patch. Just keep that in mind!
