I'm new to Linux and I've been experimenting with some distros on a spare laptop. I'm considering using EndeavorOS on my main gaming laptop, which has an RTX 4070 GPU, an AMD Ryzen 7 CPU, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. I'm currently running Windows 11 with a high-resolution external monitor (2560x1440 at 144Hz) as the primary display. Is there anything wrong with using EndeavorOS for gaming? Are there any other distros that excel in this area? I feel overwhelmed by the choices!

I've been using Nobara (which is based on Fedora) for a few months, and it's been great for gaming. It was developed by the same guy who created the Proton GE compatibility layer for Linux, so it has solid support for various games. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a gaming-friendly distro!
I've been using Garuda for a year now, and it's been fantastic for gaming! It's Arch-based and comes with everything you need already installed. Plus, it has a nice setup wizard to help you get started without too much hassle.
Honestly, you can game on pretty much any Linux distro. If you have newer hardware like yours, a rolling release could be beneficial. But if you’re more into retro games, old LTS distros work just fine. As for EndeavorOS, it’s just a slightly adjusted version of Arch. You might want to consider CachyOS as it offers similar benefits and great gaming optimizations without many changes.
For gaming, you can’t go wrong with Kubuntu LTS. It checks all the necessary boxes for Steam gaming, and if you don’t want to deal with too much setup, it's perfect. Just remember, Proton works with any distro to run games, so it's mainly about how much work you want to do yourself.
