What GPU should I upgrade to for my older PC?

I'm looking to upgrade the GPU in my PC, which I built around 2018. While I'd love to get a whole new setup, it's not in the cards right now due to budget concerns. The current RAM prices are also a bit crazy! So for the moment, I'm thinking about a GPU upgrade with a budget of around $500. I want to pick something that won't get outdated too quickly, but I'm unsure if that's realistic. I've been using a secondhand GTX 980, and it's finally time for an upgrade since it's not meeting the minimum requirements for the latest games. Here are my current specs:

- Motherboard: Asus Prime Z370-A ATX LGA 1151
- CPU: i5-8600K CPU 3.6 GHz 6-Core
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16
- GPU: PNY GeForce GTX 980 4GB DDR5 PCIe 3.0

I'd appreciate any recommendations you have for a new GPU or other advice for my setup. Thanks!

Remember, if your system feels slow, it might not just be the hardware—bloatware can really impact performance. Also, ensure your current hardware is compatible with Windows 11 if you're planning to upgrade your OS.

If you can, check out a local Micro Center. They’ve got the 9070 XT for around $600, which is a great deal if you can stretch your budget a bit. If that’s too much, the 9060 XT with 16 GB is a fantastic option as well and will leave you some budget for future upgrades!

I’d recommend a 9060 XT 16 GB or the 5060 Ti 16 GB. Both should give you a solid performance boost without breaking the bank. Just keep in mind that prices for GPUs might keep climbing, so act fast if you see a good deal!

Consider grabbing a B550 motherboard and looking for a 5700. You can keep your current RAM and possibly upgrade to a B580 intel graphics card later on. This whole upgrade could come in under $550!
