Is Upgrading from RTX 4070 Ti to RTX 5080 Worth It?

Hey everyone!

I'm considering replacing my RTX 4070 Ti with an RTX 5080. I have a Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor and typically play narrative-driven games at 4K, along with shooters like R6 in Full HD.

Originally, I planned to wait for the 60 series, but with all the news about rising prices and delays, I'm now looking at getting a new GPU sooner.

Do you think the upgrade will significantly improve my frames per second in both 4K and Full HD? Also, I'm a bit concerned about the 12GB VRAM—will that be sufficient for my gaming needs?

Thanks in advance!

If you're focused on 4K gaming, I'd say go for the upgrade! It's a niche area, which explains why the 80 and 90 models are priced high. For most gamers, 1440p at ultra/high settings is plenty. Regarding VRAM, I've noticed some games require more than 8GB at full details, but generally, 12GB should suffice unless you’re playing exceptionally demanding titles.

For 4K gaming, upgrading to the 5080 could make a noticeable difference. However, whether it’s worth it really depends on your personal gaming needs and budget. Check out some comparison videos of the 4070 Ti versus the 5080, focusing on the games you play. Also, consider selling your 4070 Ti; that could help offset the price of the new GPU.

The 5070 Ti practically matches the 5080's performance, only about a 7 fps difference in 4K and 14 fps in 1440p. You might want to consider the 5070 Ti for a better value overall!

I wouldn't recommend it—just go for the 5090 if you're looking for a serious upgrade. The 5080 might not give you enough of a jump.

I have a 4070 Ti as well and thought about upgrading to either the 5070 Ti or 5080. After checking benchmarks for the games I play, I decided it wasn't worth it for me. It might be different for you though, just see if the performance boost aligns with your gaming habits.

Honestly, it’s not worth it. You can adjust settings in games to get better performance without the need for a new GPU.
