Am I at risk from a half-downloaded ZIP file?

I was in the process of downloading a ZIP file that I suspect has a virus, but I canceled the download halfway. I'm really worried—can I still get a virus from this partial download? What should I do with the part that was downloaded? Does it only pose a risk if I fully download and unzip it? I would appreciate any information or advice on this!

Do a scan just to be safe, but honestly, in almost every case, you're probably fine. Those partial downloads typically won't harm your computer.

It's unlikely you'd get infected just from a half-downloaded file. You can’t open it if it's incomplete. But for extra caution, running a quick malware scan is always wise!

ZIP files are harmless until you actually execute any files inside them, so as long as you haven't opened anything, you’re in the clear. Just delete any partial files you see in your downloads, and you’ll be good to go.

If you didn’t open or run the ZIP file, you should be okay! You can clear the canceled download from your browser, but it’s a good idea to search your PC for any leftover files using tools like Everything. Running a malware scan with something like Malwarebytes or the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool can give you peace of mind, too.
