I've got this strange file named "635" in my downloads folder that just appeared out of nowhere. It's empty and doesn't have any file extension. I'm concerned because I recently had several of my accounts hacked due to malware and I really don't want to take any risks again. Can someone help me figure out what this could be?

It sounds like that file could potentially be linked to the malware you had previously. Since it's empty, it might not be harmful, but it’s a good idea to play it safe. Try adding a .txt extension and open it with Notepad to check for anything hidden. If it’s really empty, you might be in the clear, but keep your guard up!

I already opened it with Notepad and confirmed it's empty. I can't remember creating it, though. Just fyi, I was the one who ended up downloading the malware personally, thinking it’d be harmless. Guess that was a dumb move!

Glad you checked it out! Just make sure to keep your antivirus updated and run a scan every once in a while.

Have you done a full reinstallation of Windows after the malware situation? If not, that can help eliminate any leftover scripts or files that might be causing issues. Before doing that, running a Windows Defender scan could give you peace of mind. It might be worth trying!

I did use the 'reset this PC' feature and I opted for the cloud reinstall, wiping everything and even switching Microsoft accounts. I didn't have a USB handy for a full reinstall.

I found a similar file under my startup apps once. It could be harmless, but if you're concerned, it might be prudent to keep an eye on it. Just make sure to check your startup programs regularly to catch anything suspicious before it runs!
