Why Does My Monitor Keep Turning Off During Use?

I've been experiencing an issue where my monitor unexpectedly turns black in the middle of using my computer. After a few seconds, an error message appears, and then the monitor shuts off completely. The only fix is to restart the computer entirely. I tried pressing Windows + Shift + Control + B, but all I got was a beeping noise with no changes to the situation.

I've noticed that when I open an application, the temperature readings shoot up from 60°C to 90°C, leading to the black screen. I think the thermal paste might need to be reapplied since I disconnected my CPU cooler a few days ago and didn't change it again. I'm unsure if simply disconnecting it requires a repaste.

Also, it seems like my GPU fans aren't spinning, even when temperatures reach over 60°C—though the RGB lights are still on, so I doubt the GPU itself is the issue. In MSI Afterburner, it shows fan activity at 50%, but they aren't moving physically.

To make matters worse, my BIOS is set to default settings, and the monitor has black screened even while I was just browsing the BIOS settings. Anyone have advice on what to try next?

Have you tried switching your monitor to any integrated graphics options if your CPU has them? Sometimes it helps in seeing if the issue is with the GPU itself or something else. Also, if your GPU fans aren't spinning, that could definitely be contributing to the overheating problem, so keep an eye on that. Let me know if you need more tips!

Yeah, not having integrated graphics can be a hassle. If the GPU fans aren't responding even when you try manual settings, it might be time to check the power connection for the GPU or think about the possibility of a hardware issue.

It sounds like reapplying thermal paste could be a good idea, especially after disconnecting your cooler. Just make sure to clean off the old paste properly before applying the new stuff. If you still have issues after that, checking the power supply to your GPU could be worth it as well!

If your GPU fans are not spinning at all, it's possible there's a hardware failure. Make sure the GPU is seated properly in the motherboard and that all power connectors are secure. You might also want to try taking the GPU out and reseating it.
