What Do I Need to Know About DirectX 12 for Running Oblivion Remastered?

I'm trying to play Oblivion Remastered, but I got an error message saying "DirectX 12 is not supported on your system." I'm not really sure what this means or how to fix it so I can get my game running. I know it relates to graphics in some way. Is this problem coming from Microsoft or the game? Any help would be appreciated! (Update: It looks like this issue is something related to the game itself which I can't fix right now. Thanks for the advice!)

DirectX 12 is essentially a graphics API that helps the game communicate with your graphics card. If you have an older GPU, it probably won't handle it well—or at all.

If your GPU doesn’t support DirectX 12, I doubt you’ll get Oblivion Remastered running smoothly at all—even if you manage to run it on a lower graphics setting. This game isn’t well-optimized and really demands a strong GPU. Just for reference, most GPUs that don’t support DX12 are pretty dated, like the Nvidia GTX 700 series. Double-check your specs!

That’s disappointing to hear. I might be out of luck then since my rig isn't the best. I just bought the game, so I'm hoping for a refund to grab the original instead.

You might have an integrated GPU that supports DX12, but not the ultimate version, which is what that error message indicates.

To check if your GPU supports DirectX 12, hit Windows + R, type in 'dxdiag' and press Enter. Look for the Driver panel in the Display tab. If the Direct3D DDI line isn’t 12, then your GPU just doesn’t support it, and you’ll need to upgrade to something newer to run the game.

I see it says DirectX 12, which is why I’m puzzled by this whole issue.

Can you share your system specs? What video card are you using? That would help figure out the issue better.
