Is the RX 580 a good choice for my build, or should I consider a different budget GPU?

I'm considering building a PC with the following components: a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, 8GB of Vengeance RAM, and an Asus ROG Strix B550-F motherboard. I'm curious about whether the RX 580 graphics card would be a good fit for this build. If not, what would be a solid budget-friendly alternative? Also, what power supply should I look for, and what kind of frame rates can I expect from this setup?

What's your actual budget for the GPU? Keep in mind, your FPS will heavily depend on the game, resolution, and the graphics settings you choose. It's hard to give an exact number without knowing more details.

The RX 580 is about on par with the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. If you're looking for something more powerful, I'd suggest the RTX 5060, which is budget-friendly at around $250 and offers performance closer to the PS5 Pro. I wouldn't really recommend getting the RX 580 if you're spending a significant amount on it.

Make sure to consider your total budget for the whole build. 8GB of RAM is pretty minimal these days—especially for modern AAA games. You might be fine for low-end games, but it won't hold up for more demanding titles.

A 650W power supply is recommended for future upgrades. The RX 580 isn't the best option right now if you're into AAA gaming. For competitive games, it might give you around 100-140 FPS, but expect stutters due to the CPU and RAM. I'd suggest looking for a 6750 XT instead, as it's a major upgrade.

I'll look for that! I just need to find a good deal. RAMs are quite expensive these days.

The RX 580 will run games, but it feels like it's just barely keeping up in 2025! With a Ryzen 5 3600, consider looking for a GTX 1660 or RX 5600 XT for a better balance. A PSU around 550W, 80+ Bronze from a reputable brand will work perfectly.

If your CPU and motherboard support it, you might want to consider a B580. But most RX 580s you're likely to come across are actually RX 590s with limited performance. Personally, I wouldn't pay more than around $60-75 for them based on how they perform. It's worth noting that a second stick of RAM will help a lot.

Your setup sounds a lot like my 'emergency' build! With an RX 580 at 1080p on low settings for older games, you could hit 100+ FPS. For more recent AAA games, you might hit 45 FPS at best. Remember, the RX 580 was a budget card years ago, so don't expect it to perform miracles.
