Should I Upgrade My CPU or Get a 1440p Monitor for Gaming?

I'm currently playing a CPU-intensive game called Arc Rider and I'm hitting some issues with performance. My setup includes two 1080p monitors—one with 240Hz and the other with 144Hz. I have an AMD Ryzen 5 5600x CPU, a GeForce RTX 5070 with 12GB of VRAM, and 32GB of DDR4 RAM. I'm experiencing significant bottlenecks while playing. I'm considering either upgrading my CPU, which would require a new motherboard and RAM, or selling my 1080p monitors to buy a single 1440p monitor. I believe that switching to 1440p will help alleviate the CPU bottleneck. However, I'm hesitant as I worry that the new monitor might still lead to similar issues. What do you all suggest?

I get your concern about the monitor potentially not solving your problem. But honestly, what you've described suggests that your CPU just can't keep up at 1080p—especially with demanding games. Going up to 1440p should definitely relieve some of that strain. Just make sure the 1440p monitor you pick has a refresh rate that matches your gaming style, maybe around 144Hz to keep it fluid!

Exactly! You might enjoy the gaming experience way more on a higher resolution display. Plus, with future games coming out, it might save you some hassle down the line.

It sounds like a 1440p monitor could help balance things out for you. Running at a higher resolution will put more load on your GPU and help with those CPU bottlenecks. While you might see some decrease in average FPS, the frame stability could improve, which is crucial for gaming. A 1440p display around 144Hz could give you a nice sweet spot with better overall performance. You're likely to enjoy smoother gameplay than sticking to full HD at those extreme settings!

That's a good point! I personally think the drop in average FPS will be worth it for the increase in stability. Plus, those visuals at 1440p are gorgeous!
