Is the 3080 Still Good for 4K Gaming?

Hey everyone! I recently got a new 240Hz 4K OLED monitor, and I'm currently using an RTX 3080 with an Intel 12700K. The visuals are absolutely stunning, but I've started to notice some frame rate drops in newer games, especially in titles like Cyberpunk and Clair Obscur. I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading to a 5080, and if so, should I also consider upgrading my CPU?

You might want to consider alternatives like the 5070 Ti or 9070 XT. They offer about 80-90% of the 5080's performance but at a much lower price point.

I just jumped from a 3080 Ti to the 5080. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend trying 4K gaming on the 3080 Ti; the 5080 is a game changer!

You must be doing something wrong! My 3080 Ti runs 4K just fine, though I'm not playing super demanding games.

The 5080 is about 70% faster than the 3080 overall. So, the question is, do you think paying for that extra performance is worth it for you? As for the CPU, it probably won’t matter much at 4K since bottlenecks are typically more about the GPU.

But upgrading your CPU can still provide a boost, especially with modern titles that use upscaling like DLSS. I swapped to a better CPU, and it made a noticeable difference in gameplay!

Wow, now I'm considering a CPU upgrade too!

Honestly, the 3080 can still work for many titles at 4K if you're okay with lowering some settings, but it's not ideal for performance-heavy games. If you’re used to high refresh rates, definitely consider upgrading the GPU first. Seeing smooth gameplay is way more fun at that resolution!

If you really want to hit above 60 fps at 4K ultra settings, an upgrade is definitely needed. A 3080 can handle decent gaming, but if you want to utilize your 240Hz monitor, you’ll need a more powerful GPU for that. You don’t necessarily have to upgrade your CPU right away since it should handle 4K quite well, but having a better one could help if you want to maximize performance in competitive games.

That's great advice! Maybe I’ll save up for the GPU first, then look at the CPU later.
