Troubleshooting a Black Screen Error on My New PC

I recently built my first PC in August, and now I'm experiencing some major issues. My computer was running slowly with basic applications like Discord, Steam, and OperaGX open. When I tried to open Task Manager to see what was causing the slowdown, it kept crashing on me. After multiple attempts, I finally managed to get CCleaner to run, but it didn't find any problems. I tried updating some drivers, but during the process, it got stuck while unzipping a LAN driver, so I ended up terminating it. CCleaner then prompted me to restart my PC to set up the updates, but upon boot-up, I encountered a black screen with a message saying, "Windows encountered a problem and couldn't be repaired," along with a log file path. I attempted a system restore from before these issues began, but that failed too. Here are my specs: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 32GB RAM, XFX Radeon RX 9060 XT GPU, ASUS B650-E motherboard, and three Samsung SSDs. I'm worried that the initial slowdown was due to driver updates but killing CCleaner led to this mess. What should I do?

It sounds like your main issue is likely related to the operating system drive. The error message about the log file indicates there may be corruption in Windows. By the way, BSODs can be black now, which I think is what you're referring to! You might want to consider using the "Reset this PC" feature to try to keep your personal files while fixing the OS. Just make sure to have backups if possible, since you don't want to lose anything important!

To really nail this down, getting some dump files from your system would help analyze the problem. If you can get into Windows normally or through Safe Mode, check for any minidump files in C:WindowsMinidump. If you find any, zip them up and upload them to a file-sharing site that works for you, like mediafire.com or catbox.moe. Having multiple dump files can provide better insight into what went wrong! Also, follow those guides to set up smaller memory dumps—it might help in the future.

Before you do anything drastic like a full factory reset, ensure that you have all your important files backed up. The "Reset this PC" with the option to keep personal files could be your best bet to salvage your data while resolving the issues. Just double-check that everything critical is saved elsewhere if you can!
