How Can I Play an Old DVD on My Computer Without Installing Extra Software?

I'm trying to watch a DVD for class, but when I insert it, I'm getting a bunch of pop-ups wanting me to install this PCfriendly spyware player. I usually just use VLC to watch DVDs, but this is getting in the way. How can I bypass the need for any old software? I really prefer not to install anything sketchy. Thanks for your help!

VLC should definitely be able to play your DVD without issues. If you want to avoid the player popping up, consider using a free app like HandBrake to convert the DVD into a video file. It's a super easy process and will let you watch it without any interference.

If you're still having trouble, try closing that spy software and open the DVD directly in VLC. If you run into error messages, take a screenshot of those for a better understanding of the issue.

You might have a malware issue. Try running a scan with Malwarebytes. If it's a school computer, you could just have IT check it out for you. Not worth messing around with if something sneaky is going on.

Are you saying the DVD might’ve installed something, or could it be a pre-existing issue? I ran Malwarebytes, and it didn’t find anything.

You can right-click the DVD in File Explorer and choose 'Open.' That should let you access the files directly. Then, just launch VLC and select the drive to play your movie. It’s pretty straightforward!
