I recently applied thermal paste for the first time on my CPU and may have overdone it a bit. Currently, my temperatures sit around 55-60°C when idle and peak at about 70°C under load. Are these temperatures acceptable, or do I need to clean it up and reapply?

Those temps seem pretty normal to me! It should be fine as is. Just keep an eye on things—if you're not experiencing any overheating or issues, you're likely good to go.
I'm using a Corsair Hydro Series Cooling H75. When I play Escape Simulator 2, I see about 62°C for package temp and 59°C for the cores—nothing extreme, but I'll keep monitoring.
Honestly, those temperatures aren't concerning, especially depending on your setup. Yes, you might have used a bit too much paste, but it's not really causing any harm. Just make sure everything is working fine and you should be okay.
Under 70°C during load is fine, so no worries! Idle temps don’t matter too much, and it sounds like you're within a safe range.
I wouldn't stress too much about 60°C at idle. Just make sure you're comfortable with your cooling solution. I usually go for the pea-sized dot method when applying paste!
