What SSD Should I Consider Buying Right Now?

I'm almost done with my new computer build, but I'm still on the hunt for an SSD. I originally tried to order a Samsung 990 EVO 2TB NVME M.2 back in December, but shipping delays due to high demand (especially from AI tech) have made it hard to find. I placed my order for around $209, but I'm worried it might get canceled because of stock issues. I've looked at SSDs from Crucial and Western Digital, but their prices are pretty high right now. I'm looking for a reliable and reasonably fast SSD for my main boot drive. Any suggestions?

Have you considered the SN7100? It's getting decent reviews lately.

Just a heads up, the shortage might worsen. Chip reservations are being secured into 2028, so the outlook for consumer electronics could lead to more stock issues down the line.

If you're looking for specific models, I’d recommend the Crucial P510 at around $210 at places like B&H and Best Buy. It's a newer, Gen 5 drive. If you want something with a solid reputation, the Crucial T500 is going for about $245 at those retailers as well.

Honestly, $209 is a decent price for a 2TB SSD. If your order is still processing, it should be okay. I just dropped under $400 for a 4TB SSD, but I saw that same NVME go for more than $700 soon after, so prices can vary. If your order has just been delayed, consider waiting to see if they fulfill it, especially since SSD demand isn’t at a peak right now. Brands I’d recommend are Samsung, Western Digital, and Kingston.

Okay yeah, the order was placed but never shipped. I've received a bunch of emails about delays, so I'm really hoping it will go through. Fingers crossed!

Honestly, I have a couple of ideas for you. First, consider getting a 1TB drive, possibly pre-owned. From my experience managing around 5TB of NVME storage, I rarely use more than 500GB at a time. If you need extra space for content, think about getting an additional HDD. A new 1TB SSD is going to cost you at least $150, but I recently snagged a used SATA Samsung 870 for just $70, and it's in perfect condition. Keep an eye out for good deals on healthy NVME options!

Okay thanks! I'll look into that as an option if they cancel my order!
