I recently upgraded from my iPhone XR to the new iPhone 17 Pro and transitioned from sharing an Apple account with my mom to creating my own account. After signing into my new Apple account, I registered my phone number in the settings under sign-in and security. But I keep getting error messages saying it's unavailable for iMessage and FaceTime, and it indicates that a SIM must be associated with an Apple device for my phone number to be used. Furthermore, when I check 'My Number' in the Phone settings, it doesn't show anything. Can someone help me figure out how to link my phone number to my new phone and Apple account?

Your cellular service probably isn’t activated yet. You should call your wireless provider or visit a store. Sometimes all they need to do is send you a QR code to scan. That might do the trick!
It sounds like your number might still be linked to your old account. You'll need to remove it from there first. Just sign into your old Apple account and check if there's an option to manage your phone numbers.
First, make sure your cellular service is activated. Can you make and receive regular calls or texts? If you can't, that's likely the issue and you'll need to contact your service provider to get that sorted out.
Have you checked if your iPhone 17 Pro allows you to transfer from a physical SIM to an eSIM? Depending on your carrier, you might need to switch it over to fully activate your number.
