I recently built my first PC and am really happy with all my components except for my 1TB Crucial SSD. I'm running into storage issues for games and personal files, and I've noticed some performance problems with it. I'm looking at getting a 2TB Samsung SSD to fix this. My motherboard is an MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi, and I have a second SSD slot available. Should I just install the new Samsung SSD in the second slot, or would it be better to migrate my Windows installation to the Samsung (which should perform better) and use the Crucial SSD for some smaller games and files? Thanks for any guidance!

If you get the Samsung 990 Pro, it could enhance your overall system responsiveness since it has DRAM. If that's the case, it might be worth moving Windows to that drive and keeping the Crucial SSD for storage. Otherwise, sticking with the Crucial as your boot drive is totally fine!
I've got a mix of SATA and M.2 SSDs in my setup, plus a hard drive. Just install the new SSD and format it in NTFS—simple as that! You can fill every slot if your motherboard supports it. Just make sure everything is properly mounted.
Thanks for the reassurance! I was hesitant about filling that second port, but if it works just fine, I’ll go ahead and add it.
Honestly, the performance difference from moving Windows to the new drive won't be super noticeable in everyday use. If it were me, I’d just add the new SSD, keep Windows where it is, and boot from the Crucial as usual. Easy peasy!
So just plug in the new SSD, keep everything on the Crucial, and boot from there? Thanks a ton for the clarification!

I'm definitely planning on getting the 990, so I appreciate your input!
