Tips for Updating Lenovo ThinkSystems Firmware

I'm new to managing Lenovo ThinkSystems and we're trying to update one that's been around for about 6 to 7 years. We're currently using ClarotyOS/Ubuntu, but I only have access to the ClarityController and not the OS itself. Has anyone tackled the firmware updates from the "Firmware Update" menu? Are there any common issues or quirks I should be aware of? I noticed there are several files included in each firmware download. Is it just a matter of browsing, selecting all, and updating? Also, should I update components individually or is it better to use an UpdateXpress System Pack? I've seen mixed advice about this—some say to go one by one in a specific order, while others claim the System Pack manages it for you. Any insights would be appreciated!

I have a similar setup with a SR series and typically update through the web XClarity Controller. Be cautious with UpdateXpress—it includes a lot of drivers and firmware for various setups, which can make it time-consuming. Lately, I've switched to manual updates, as I found it faster to handle. You might find it easier as well, depending on your configuration.

I'd recommend going with UpdateXpress unless you need a specific version for compatibility reasons. I'm not sure about the firmware update process since we mainly use XClarity for our management. It can vary a lot based on the versions you're dealing with, so keep your eye out for any specific pitfalls people mention in their documents.
