How Can I Stop Spam Teams Calls from Fake IT Support?

I've started receiving a bunch of calls on Teams from people pretending to be from IT, and it's the first time I've experienced something like this. I'm looking for the best ways to prevent these kinds of spam calls, as I know they can interfere with real communications. Has anyone else dealt with this issue? What steps did you take?

We had something similar happen. A lot of suspicious calls claiming to be IT started coming in, especially after a flood of newsletter signups. We ended up blocking the domains and cleaning out our email logs. It took a while but filtering out the spam helped manage the issue.

If you're unsure about a call, just ask them for the password. If they can't provide it, then it's likely they're not legit. It’s a simple trick that can save you from fake IT calls.

And if they do know it, it might mean IT has been hacked, haha!

One option is to disallow external Teams contacts, at least for now. This can help stop the spam calls temporarily and might be a good move until you figure things out.

I found a setting in Teams Admin that lets you manage external domains. You can restrict access to specific domains or block all external calls completely. I restricted it to just one domain for now and it seems to help, though it might take some time to kick in fully.

Training users to recognize who's really calling them is crucial. Even if the calls are infrequent, it’s worth educating everyone on common scams and phishing attempts to avoid falling for fake IT support.

That’s true! I locked our Teams down to only allow calls from a specific domain after seeing an increase in spam. It helps keep things secure.
