Looking to Upgrade My Dying GPU: What Should I Get?

I've been using an RTX 3080 10G for a few years now, but it seems to be on its last legs. Recently, I've noticed that the text on my screen becomes unreadable until I somehow reset that area. I've ruled out the monitor issue because everything looks fine when I use integrated graphics. I'm running a 7800x3D and have an 850W power supply.

I don't have a strict budget yet, but I'm thinking around $1,200 max for an upgrade. What would be a reasonable step up from my current GPU?

You should also check if your current setup is overheating. Sometimes, it's just an issue of needing to reapply thermal paste. If the fans are still running well, that could fix the problem without needing a whole new GPU.

Also, did you try manually increasing your fan speed? If the GPU is overheating, it might lead to that weird text issue. Just a thought before you upgrade!

A 5070 Ti at or near its $750 MSRP would be a good upgrade from the 3080. Just remember, anything significantly lower won't give you much of an improvement, and anything higher might not be worth the price.

Thanks for the tips! I'll keep an eye on the prices.

Definitely check the price-to-performance ratio before making a move!

While upgrading can be a fun option, sometimes weird graphical issues are software-related. I suggest doing a clean install of Windows just to rule that out. Backup your files first, though!

I hadn't considered that. I'll try a clean install first!

Good call! That might save you some cash.

Between the two, I'd suggest the 9070 XT. It's generally cheaper and offers great performance. Just make sure to buy whichever is close to its MSRP. The 9070 XT's MSRP is around $600, while the 5070 Ti is about $750.

You might want to check out the RTX 5070 Ti 16GB or the RX 9070 XT 16GB. Just keep in mind that if you go for the RX, you might need to reinstall the drivers. Either way, both would give you a solid upgrade!
