Hey everyone! I'm looking for some honest insights. I've got 2 years of experience working at HCLTech and I'm thinking about changing companies to get into a DevOps role. Do you think it's realistic for someone with my experience to make the switch, or should I hold off for a bit longer?

It really hinges on your skill set. While it's not super common to switch into DevOps with only 2 years of experience, I managed to do it. I dedicated a lot of my free time to learning DevOps tools and practices, which helped me make the leap.

It really varies by the role. In my previous DevOps job, I was managing over 20 Jenkins pipelines and intricate Linux setups—swapping to that role was tough. Now, I'm in a simpler DevOps position that focuses on just one Jenkins pipeline. So, it really depends on what the company is looking for.

It's hard to say without knowing more about your background and the specific roles you're aiming for. But honestly, waiting isn’t the answer. With 2 years under your belt, your chances might be lower, but if you're willing to learn and apply that knowledge in your current job, you can definitely increase your prospects.
