Is it safe to use a 140W docking station with a laptop that has a 65W charger?

I'm setting up a new home office and looking at docking stations for my laptop, which originally comes with a 65W charger. I found a docking station that requires a separate 140W power supply. My question is, will using this 140W docking station fry my laptop? The dock uses a USB-C connection, and I'm assuming it will only draw what it needs, but I'd like some confirmation on this. Also, does anyone know if Newegg sells charger cables?

Absolutely, your laptop will be fine! With USB-C Power Delivery, the dock will negotiate the power levels automatically. It's similar to when you plug a low-power device into a mains outlet; it only pulls the energy it needs.

Totally safe! It will just draw its required wattage. A good quality USB-C cable is essential, though, as some cables limit the power delivery. You should be all set!

Your laptop is smart enough to only pull in the power it needs. The 140W is just the maximum it can provide. Just keep an eye on any additional devices plugged into the dock, as they might increase the overall power demand. Otherwise, you're good to go!

No worries! The maximum power rating is just that – a maximum. Your laptop will only draw the power it needs, so a 140W dock won't fry it. Just make sure you're using the right cables that support the power delivery. Don't stress too much about the wattage.

Just to reiterate – don't worry! Your laptop will only take what it requires, regardless of the maximum rating of the dock. It's like having a big gas tank; it won’t force fuel into your car, it just fills to what the engine needs.
