Should I Upgrade My Whole PC or Just the CPU?

I visited a local PC shop to troubleshoot my CPU, and they recommended a full upgrade since I've been using my Intel i3 10105F for 5 years now. They also suggested upgrading my GPU, as I'm currently using an RX 6600. They quoted me for an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X along with a new motherboard and any newer GPU. I'm wondering if this is a sensible move considering I want to play games like Arc Raiders at around 100 FPS on low settings and GTA. What CPU and motherboard would work best on a budget while still utilizing my RX 6600 with 8GB of RAM?

Upgrading both the CPU and GPU sounds like a good idea since you're currently on a pretty basic processor. Your i3 is one of the weakest on your platform, and moving up will definitely give you a better experience. Just make sure they confirmed it's a CPU issue and not something with the motherboard. If your motherboard is still in good shape, you could go for a more budget-friendly upgrade without switching platforms. But if you're looking for a solid upgrade path, consider the LGA 1700 series with an i5; you’ll get great performance for the price. Just don’t forget to update the BIOS if you pick up a newer CPU! 👍

I walked into the shop hoping to solve the CPU issue since it hits 90-100% utilization while gaming. They said it was time for an upgrade, though. Is there a big difference between AMD and Intel CPUs when paired with an AMD GPU? I've seen many suggest the R5 5600 instead of Intel options.
