Hey everyone! I need some help. My mom has been locked out of her Microsoft account because someone changed her recovery email to a different address. I confirmed with her over text to make sure it wasn't a prank or something. This situation is concerning because she has a ton of important information in that account, likely around 40 years' worth. Can Microsoft help in this situation? It seems tricky since we don't have the recovery email anymore. We're hoping to either recover her account or at least find a way to wipe the information from it.

Definitely fill out the recovery form on their support page. It’s your best bet to get her account back. Here’s the link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/account-billing/help-with-the-microsoft-account-recovery-form-b19c02d1-a782-dee6-93c3-dc8113b20c42.
Just so you know, I wouldn’t sweat the 40 years claim too much. Maybe she meant she’s had that email for a long time. But yeah, it’s possible she transferred things to the cloud from older devices.
It’s best to contact Microsoft support directly; they have the tools to help with account recovery issues like this. They’re the only ones who can really assist you here.
