Unexpected Tinder Notification on My Phone—How to Disable Future Ads?

I just noticed a notification that looked like an ad for Tinder, but I don't even have the app downloaded on my phone. It popped up with something like "Tinder — 870k members active now," but I panicked and swiped it away before taking a screenshot. My girlfriend was right next to me, and I knew she would freak out if she saw that. I work in IT, so I recognized it quickly as an ad, but I'm wondering how I can stop these kinds of notifications from showing up in the future. I couldn't troubleshoot right away since she was glued to my side afterward, and I want to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Have you ever had Tinder on your phone before? Sometimes apps can still send notifications even after they’re deleted, depending on how they’re set up.

Yeah, I had it ages ago, but when I checked the App Store, it doesn’t show as available to redownload. Must have been a while!

Just to clarify, was it not a notification from messages or emails? If you haven't used Tinder before, then it should be strange for that to happen. But I get that you want to ensure it doesn’t happen again!

Nope, it wasn't from messages or emails, and I don’t have any other Apple devices. It was definitely a Lock Screen notification with the Tinder logo.

It sounds like that notification might have come from another app rather than Tinder itself. A lot of apps show ads, and these can sometimes pop up like that without you even having the app installed. You might want to check which apps are installed and see if there's any suspicious ones that could push ads.

I totally get that feeling! It's scary getting ads like that when you didn’t expect it.

As an IT guy, you definitely have the skills to troubleshoot this yourself. But it might just be easier to go into your settings and see if there’s an option to disable ads from apps that you're not using. Sometimes even if you don’t have the app, desktop notifications can still pop up. Google can be your best friend here for those specific settings!

Haha, I know right? I usually Google stuff first, but my brain just didn't connect at that moment!
