I recently discovered that my PC has been compromised after a hacker installed malware. Even after Windows Defender removed some threats, I'm still facing issues with remote access through WinGate COM Servers. This allows the hacker to execute commands, install more malware, and even make purchases on my accounts without changing the passwords, as I'm still signed in on my desktop. What steps can I take to secure my PC and prevent further access via WinGate?

If the situation is really serious, getting professional help might be your best bet. Disconnect your PC completely and power off your router too, just in case. While you're at it, check all your devices on the network—some malware can spread to other machines.

After disconnecting, I recommend doing a deep clean on your whole network. Some viruses can infect even the router, so resetting that might be necessary. But be cautious, as there are numerous vulnerabilities that could let attackers back in.

First things first, disconnect your PC from the internet. They can't reach you if you're offline! Once that's done, back up your important files, but be careful—don't copy anything that's potentially infected. After that, perform a complete format and reinstall of Windows. This is the most thorough way to wipe out any lurking malware.

Definitely start by taking your PC offline to prevent further access. After that, consider performing a thorough scan with a tool like Malwarebytes before you go for the full wipe. If the malware's stubborn, creating a bootable rescue disk with antivirus tools could help. Just remember to boot from it without opening Windows to be most effective.
