Help! My Mac Password Isn’t Working After Update

Hey everyone, I've recently updated my Mac about three hours ago, and now I can't seem to get back in. I've tried everything I could find online—going into recovery mode, using the terminal to reset my password, and even clicking the 'forget password' option. Unfortunately, my laptop can't connect to the Internet, and my attempt to use a hotspot didn't work either. I've genuinely tried every possible solution, so I'm hoping someone out there has some unique advice that I can't find elsewhere on the Internet. Just to add, I'm currently on macOS version 15. Thanks!

It sounds frustrating! Since your Mac is from 2013 and you attempted to install an unsupported version of macOS using OpenCore Legacy Patcher, that might be why your password isn't working. It's probably a compatibility issue. You might want to consider visiting the Apple Store for support; they may not service obsolete systems, but they could still offer some quick advice.

Good luck at the Apple Store! Just a heads up, don’t be surprised if they suggest you upgrade to a newer model since they often won’t provide support for older devices. If you're really attached to your MacBook, maybe check with a local computer shop as well—they might have solutions!

Definitely worth exploring other options! Sometimes local shops have more flexible solutions compared to corporate support.

It's interesting that your password works in recovery mode but not otherwise. That might point to a deeper issue with the macOS update itself. Have you tried resetting the NVRAM/PRAM? That can sometimes help with strange issues like this. Hang in there!
