I put together my first PC a few years back, but I'm starting to notice some limitations with its performance. I'm ready to upgrade parts instead of building a whole new setup. Here are my current specs: CPU - Intel i5-12400f, GPU - ASRock Challenger D Radeon RX 6650 XT, RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4, MOBO - MSI PRO B660M-A WIFI DDR4, PSU - EVGA 500 GD, 80+ GOLD 500W, and SSD - 1TB Team Group CX2. I'm thinking about upgrading to an RX 9070 GPU and adding 2x 16GB DDR5 RAM. Does anyone think my CPU or motherboard will bottleneck this setup? Am I on the right track, or is there something I'm missing? By the way, I mainly use this PC for gaming and some CAD work.

Definitely consider doubling your RAM, but only if you actually need it for the games you're playing. DDR4 is cheap, so I'd suggest sticking with it to avoid the need for a new motherboard. You could also get an RX 9060, 5070, or 9070, depending on your budget and preferences.
If you feel like your machine is lagging, it might not just be specs. Have you tried reinstalling your OS to clear out any software bloat? Sometimes it’s hard to tell if it’s hardware or just a software issue. Also, if you're used to playing less demanding games, newer titles might really push your system.
Your GPU seems to be the main bottleneck right now. Upgrading to an RX 9070 would significantly help your performance. I’d recommend sticking with your current CPU for now since it’s still quite good. Just make sure your PSU is also up to the task! You might need to upgrade that as well, especially if you're going to push a new GPU.
Yeah, a more powerful PSU is a must. Aim for at least 750W to ensure you have some headroom.
First, it kind of depends on the games you play and their settings. If you're mostly gaming, check the specs for those games to see where you might be lacking. Have you monitored CPU and GPU usage while gaming? That can give you a clue about the limitations you're facing.
If you're going for DDR5 RAM, you'll also need a new motherboard, which might lead you to consider building a whole new PC instead. But if gaming is your priority, a new GPU is really all you need. Something like the RX 9060 or 9070 would be a solid boost depending on your gaming demands.

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely check the PSU requirements for the new GPU.
