I recently helped my friend with his first PC build, and he wanted to keep it around $600. I've been into PC building for a few years, but this is my first solo build, so I'm hoping everything goes smoothly. I struggled a bit with the current RAM and SSD prices, but here's what I came up with:
- **CPU**: Ryzen 5 5500 - $80
- **Cooler**: Thermalright Assassin X SE 32.77 CFM - $17
- **Thermal Paste**: $6
- **Motherboard**: Gigabyte A520M K V2 Micro ATX AM4 - $75
- **RAM**: Patriot Viper Elite II 16GB DDR4-2666 CL16 - $100 (those RAM prices are insane!)
- **Storage**: Western Digital Blue SN580 1TB NVME SSD - $68
- **GPU**: Radeon RX580 8GB (used) - $120 from eBay
- **Case**: Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L MicroATX - $40
- **PSU**: Thermal take Smart 500W 80+ Certified ATX - $40
- **Fans**: 5x Xigmatek XAF 90.3 CFM 140mm - $6 each
- **Monitor**: MSI G242L E14 23.8" 1920x1080 144Hz - $90
I know it's a tough time for PC builds, but he prefers performance in FPS games over graphics. What do you think? Any tips to improve the build?

Honestly, for that budget, your friend might be better off with a used PC. Some of those parts seem pretty entry-level, especially the PSU. It’s not something I’d trust in a reliable build. Consider looking for a pre-built option instead.
Why not just save some cash and get a PS5? It could save him about $250, and he’d still get great gaming performance.
Not really the same. A PC offers way more flexibility and access to a vast game library on platforms like Steam.
F.

Yeah, I get that. I was just trying to fit in the budget with new parts, but I’ll definitely consider checking for used options!
