Is that smell coming from my UPS?

I noticed a sulfur-like smell while using my PC connected to my UPS, but it's not as strong when I sniff the UPS directly. It's more reminiscent of the smell of cigarette matches. I'm wondering if this odor could be related to my UPS or if it might be coming from outside, especially since there's construction happening nearby. I've had this Cyberpower Bu850e for over three years, but I don't use it much, often disconnecting it for months. If I open it up, what should I check for besides looking for leaks or swollen batteries?

That smell could indicate failing batteries in your UPS, so unplug it right away and check the batteries. In my experience, a similar smell came from a failing unit – it's pretty common. If your batteries are hot-swappable, carefully take them out and look for any signs of leakage or bulging. Sometimes the batteries can get quite hot, so be cautious when handling them.

Yeah, I unplugged it as soon as I noticed. I'm planning to open it tonight. Just curious, aside from swollen batteries, what else should I look for?
