Hey everyone! I currently have a system with an i5-12400F processor, an RTX 3070 graphics card, and 16GB of DDR5 RAM. I'm considering upgrades, but I can't do them all at once. I use a 34-inch ultrawide monitor, and play games like Fortnite and CS2 with good FPS after some adjustments to the graphics settings. My next targets are sim racing games like iRacing and LMU, and I usually play at 1440p (ultrawide). Any suggestions on what I should upgrade first?

Make sure to check your favorite games with an overlay tool to compare CPU and GPU usage. A 14600K(F) is a solid upgrade if compatible, and at least a 5070 would be a good choice for your ultrawide setup. 16GB RAM is currently fine, but if you're looking for the sweet spot, 32GB is becoming more common in gaming setups.
The upgrades really depend on your resolution settings. If you're looking for 100+ FPS, aiming for medium to high settings should work well for you. Just remember that you might not need everything on ultra to achieve that.
I usually play on medium to high settings myself and hit good FPS!
If you're looking to upgrade your CPU, the i5-13600KF or 14600KF are great options as long as your motherboard supports them. If not, the 14490F is also a solid choice. Just make sure to update your BIOS! As for your GPU, you might want to look at the 5070—anything below that might not give you the performance boost you're hoping for, especially if you're on a budget.
Thanks for the advice!
I think most motherboards can handle the 14600KF without issues, as long as you have a good cooler.
You might want to stick with what you have unless you find an i7-14700K for a steal. Personally, I wouldn't invest in another Intel CPU right now.
Would it make more sense to just upgrade the GPU and RAM?
My motherboard only supports Intel CPUs up to Gen 14, so I'm kind of limited.
The i7-12700 is quite powerful. If you can stretch your budget to include a 5070Ti, that could be a strong upgrade as well. That will definitely help with your gaming performance!
Hold on, I meant the i5-12400F, not the i7!

Good point about checking the usage, thanks!
