I'm thinking about buying a gaming PC from an auction site, and my current bid is at $250. The specs include an Intel Core i7, a GeForce GTX 1660 Super, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. My plan is to replace the motherboard with a B550 and add a Ryzen 5 5600. Since I have never built a computer before, I want to make sure that this upgrade is feasible and if there are any critical details I should know about before proceeding. Any advice?

It's definitely possible! Just make sure the RAM speed is compatible with the new motherboard. Incompatible speeds can lead to performance issues, though it won't damage anything. Also, double-check your power supply to ensure it has the right connections for the CPU and GPU—it's better to verify beforehand than be surprised later! Once you transfer everything, remember to format the drives and install the motherboard drivers after you get your OS set up. Good luck!
It should work fine if the parts are standard and not a unique setup like some Dell or HP systems that have proprietary motherboards or enclosures. Just make sure everything fits and connects properly, and you should be good to go!
I wanted to share a picture of the setup, but it seems I can't upload it here.

I saw that the RAM is DDR3 SDRAM. Does that even match up with the B550?
