Hey everyone, I'm trying to install catchyOs for the first time and I'm a bit lost. The ISO I downloaded comes with GRUB, but I've read that using GRUB on an MSI motherboard can cause issues, so I'm thinking about switching to Limine instead. How can I make that change? I did attempt to install it with GRUB, but it didn't work for me. Also, when should I select the desktop environment? I want to use KDE, but I'm not sure when or where to download it. I'm really new to all this; I've spent 20 years using Windows and now I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. Thanks for any help!

I remember this happening during my installation too. You're usually given the option to select your bootloader and desktop environment right at the start of the installation. If the installation fails to start, it might not just be a bootloader issue; there could be other factors at play.
Yeah, it could also be how the ISO was created or the USB interface. Sometimes a different USB port can help too, especially if it’s USB 3.0.
Have you tried flashing the ISO using Ventoy? I would recommend that as it often helps in avoiding boot issues. During the installation, catchyOs should prompt you to select your bootloader, so you'll get a chance to choose Limine or GRUB then. Just keep an eye out for that option!
Thanks! I actually used balenaEtcher as recommended by catchyOs. I was able to boot into the USB, but when I tried to select the options for installation, the screen went black and just returned to that same menu. I'm thinking about giving Ventoy a shot as you suggested.
It sounds like you may need to check your BIOS settings too. Sometimes the boot order or specific UEFI settings could affect the installation process. Make sure that USB boot is prioritized.

Just to clarify, do you see any error messages? If you’re only seeing a black screen, it might be related to compatibility or settings in your BIOS.
