I'm really excited about building my new PC once the 9850X3D CPU releases at the end of the month! Here's what I have so far:
- ASUS Prime 5080 case
- 32GB DDR5 G.Skill Z5 Trident RAM
- 2TB PCIe 5 Samsung SSD
- 2TB PCIe 4 Fury Renegade SSD
- 1000W Fractal Ion3 power supply
- Fractal Meshify 3 case
- Noctua D15S cooler
The only thing left to choose is the motherboard. I'm considering the Asus TUF B850 and the ROG Strix B850-F. The Strix can run both PCIe 5 slots without sacrificing GPU lanes, but it's a bit pricier. I'm not too bothered about USB4, so I'm skipping the X670E options. Any advice would be appreciated!

How long do you plan to stick with this setup? Honestly, unless you're planning on using more PCIe 5 lanes beyond your GPU, I’d recommend going for the TUF. It'll save you some cash and still give you great performance!
If performance is key, I’d suggest looking at the B650M HDV M2; it’s known to perform quite well with these setups. Just a heads up, PCIe 5 SSDs might be overkill for most gaming needs, especially if you're pairing them with more traditional drives.
The B850 motherboards are pretty solid overall, but keep in mind that for gaming, if you already have a 2TB SSD, a single larger drive could be more efficient than two smaller ones. Just something to consider!
