I'm trying to decide between the Ryzen 9 7950X and the Ryzen 9 9900X for my everyday PC use, which mainly involves Google Chrome, general tasks, and possibly some streaming. I've upgraded my gaming rig recently, but the PC I've built in 2017 is having issues. I've done some research and noticed that while the 9900X performs better in single-thread tasks, the 7950X excels in multi-threaded applications. However, I'm not sure which applications require single-core versus multi-core performance. Additionally, I've read that the 9900X is more energy-efficient, though the 7950X doesn't consume a huge amount more. Currently, the price difference is significant, with the 9900X at $369 and the 7950X at $589. I'm open to suggestions, and while I know these CPUs might be overkill for my needs, I'm limited by what's available at my local store due to current shortages. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

For browsing and streaming, both the 7950X and 9900X are way more power than you really need. Something like the Ryzen 5 9600X would serve you just fine—it's effective, runs cool, and is budget-friendly.
