I recently upgraded my CPU from a Ryzen 5 3600 to a Ryzen 7 5700X, and now my PC won't power on. There's a red LED lit on the motherboard, which makes me think it could be an incompatibility issue. I'm using a B450 Tomahawk Max motherboard. Could I need to update the BIOS? I was under the impression that Windows Update would handle this for me, but it doesn't seem like it did.

You definitely need to update the BIOS on your B450 for full compatibility with the 5700X. Just head over to the motherboard manufacturer's website, download the latest BIOS drivers for the 5000 series, and put them on a USB stick. Then, pop in your old CPU, boot your PC, and access the BIOS to manually update it. Windows doesn't handle BIOS updates, so you'll have to do it yourself. Good luck!
Make sure to check if you have the Tomahawk Max version 1 or 2 first, since they might have slightly different procedures. Once you know which version you have, you’ll be set to get that BIOS updated!
Yeah, just install your old CPU and cooler back in, and update the BIOS from there. If your motherboard has a BIOS flashback feature, you could use that instead of swapping CPUs, which is super convenient! Just remember to reapply the thermal paste whenever you install a new CPU.
