I recently got my Linux desktop set up just the way I like it, but I'm considering reformatting to BTRFS. I'm looking for an easy way to back up and restore everything after the reformat. My plan is to use rsync via Timeshift for the backup, then reformat and reinstall Debian with BTRFS, and finally restore my programs, settings, and configs from the Timeshift backup. This is my first time attempting such a process, so I'm a bit unsure if it will all go as smoothly as I hope. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It's a good idea to back up your whole drive if you have the space. You can actually convert to BTRFS without wiping your current file system, but it's wise to be cautious as it's not always guaranteed to work perfectly. Just make sure you've got that backup before making any moves!
I did a bit of research too, and it sounds like your original plan will actually work. Just keep that backup ready in case anything goes sideways!

I read about the conversion option too, but I saw some downsides listed. Just make sure you are comfortable with potential issues!
