Is my hard drive a safety risk?

I recently found a hard drive in my inventory and ran it through CrystalDiskInfo, which gave me a warning. Should I be concerned about it? Could it actually explode and pose a danger to me? Is it wise to take it out of my PC for safety? Just to clarify, there are no files on it; it's completely clean.

Honestly, it could potentially fail without warning. I'd recommend backing up anything important somewhere else, just to be safe. You never know when a drive might just stop working.

Oh for sure! I learned that the hard way. Now, I always have a backup plan, like using cloud storage to keep my files safe.

Usually, hard drives don't explode. The worst I've seen happens in rare cases, like a super-fast SCSI drive from the 90s that cracked and shattered inside, but most of the debris stayed contained. So, while your hard drive's life may be at risk, you and your environment likely aren't in danger unless something exceptionally unusual happens.

That's good to know! I worried that they could go off like a bomb. The thought of my cousin dropping one and causing total chaos scares me.

Right? I mean, here's a wild one for you—sometimes they can catch fire, but that's still pretty rare. Always good to be cautious, though!

Quick question: is a spin retry count warning something to really worry about? What does it indicate about a drive's health?

I’ve seen one catch fire while just sitting on a shelf—enough to trigger alarms in a data center! Realistically, there's generally not much risk unless your workspace is really close to a hazard.

Yikes! That's terrifying but good to know. I thought it might explode after some comments, especially since I've had some rough experiences with tech.
