I recently replaced my broken monitor with a new one, and while the new monitor was instantly recognized when I plugged it in, I ran into an issue trying to use both screens. Initially, I switched the display settings to show only the second monitor, and now my PC isn't detecting my old monitor at all. I've gone through all the cables, updated my graphics card, restarted my PC, and tried using the Windows key + P to revert back to the extended setting, but nothing seems to work. I'm not very tech-savvy, so I'm unsure what else to do or how to check my specs.

It sounds like there may have been an arrangement issue with your monitors. If your display settings had the second monitor set differently, you might have been trying to move to a space where there wasn't actually a monitor connected. Check your display arrangement in the settings to ensure both monitors are correctly positioned.
If all else fails, checking for any driver updates might help too. Sometimes outdated drivers can cause detection issues, especially when adding a new monitor.
Check if both your old and new monitors use the same type of cable (like both HDMI or both DisplayPort). Start by only connecting the new monitor and see if that one works. If it does, then unplug the cable from your PC and test all the ports to make sure they're functional. Next, disconnect the new monitor and connect the old one using the same cable. If that works, it likely isn't an issue with the old monitor either. Then, try using a different cable for the new monitor and see what happens. It could be a cable issue!
I think I might have fixed it! I found an old cable and now they’re both working fine! It’s weird that it broke just when I changed the settings, though.
Are you using a dedicated graphics card or integrated graphics? This could also impact how your monitors are recognized.

I’m using HDMI for both. I switched the cables keeping them in the same ports, but after restarting my PC, my old monitor came back and the new one didn't! Swapping the ports didn’t change anything either, so it doesn’t seem like it’s the ports or cables.
