I'm having trouble with a server running RHEL 5 that won't boot up. I recently locked myself out and used an installation CD to enter rescue mode. I chose the option to 'rescue installed system,' and while I managed to reset the passwords and could access one logical volume (LvRoot01), the other (LvRoot00) won't boot at all. After some attempts to fix LvRoot01, it now has the same issue. I suspect it's related to LVM and the mounting process, especially since I've been using commands like vgchange -ay to try to troubleshoot. I can get to the red screen where I can input kernel arguments, but after that, the screen just goes black instead of showing the login screen. I'm not very experienced with Linux, so I'm sorry if this is vague. Any insights on how to fix this?

It sounds like you're missing some critical boot information. Can you provide any actual boot errors or logs? Just saying 'won’t boot' doesn't give us much to work with.

I’m not really sure how to check the boot errors or logs. I’ll take another look when I'm back at the server tomorrow. For now, after the RedHat boot screen, it just goes to a black screen.
