Which Linux Distro Is Best for Gaming and Daily Use?

Hey there! I've been thinking about fully switching from Windows to Linux. I've tried it out here and there for about 2-3 years, mostly in virtual machines for some small projects, so I'm not a complete newbie. The last distro I used was Bazzite Linux, but I want to explore something new. I'm looking for a Linux distribution that is optimized for gaming (like CS2, Assetto Corsa, Forza Horizon 5, and other non-Steam games), stable enough for daily tasks (good battery life, office applications, Canva, etc.), and highly customizable so I can start tweaking the look and feel. Here are my specs if they help: HP Pavilion Gaming 15 with a Ryzen 7 5800H, NVidia GTX 1650, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and 1TB SSD space across two drives. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

PikaOS seems solid from what I've gathered. I'm planning to try it out myself—looks promising for gamers like us!

I’ve looked into PikaOS too; it seems like a good fit for what I'm after. Thanks for the suggestion!

The desktop environment largely determines how customizable your setup will be rather than the distribution itself. If you want a balance between stability and current software, consider trying Fedora; it's updated reasonably often without being too cutting edge. For gaming, check out Nobara or PikaOS. If you prioritize stability, ZorinOS or Ubuntu (consider Kubuntu for KDE environment) could be good options.

Thanks for your input! I've had some issues with ZorinOS before like it not detecting my GPU and USB devices, so I’m hesitant to try that one again after dealing with Nvidia setup headaches.

You might want to check out the distro selection page linked in various Linux forums. Playing around with different versions in a VM can help you find what clicks for you. And remember, always back up your data and double-check commands before executing them!

I recommend running another VM to test different distros. You’ll discover your preferences, especially between desktop environments like KDE or GNOME. I've been a lifelong Windows user but find GNOME's interface convenient without sacrificing functionality.

I’ve always used Windows too; I'm leaning towards KDE for its customization options. I've tried some distros in live environments, but I’m still undecided.
