Is Upgrading from RTX 3060 to RX 9060 XT Worth It Before Prices Spike?

I'm currently running a Ryzen 7 5700X3D with 32GB of DDR4 RAM, an ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4 motherboard, and a trusty RTX 3060 12GB. I mainly use my rig for gaming at 1080p, enjoying indie games, along with a few heavy hitters like Cyberpunk 2077 and Forza. In the future, I might venture into 1440p, but there's no rush since I'm not looking to go 4K right now.

I'm not ready to upgrade from the AM4 platform yet due to the cost of DDR5, as I chose AM4 back in 2020 for its longevity. However, I'm seriously considering upgrading my GPU from the RTX 3060, which I've had since 2022. With graphics card prices spiking again and the potential for a long wait on new AMD cards until 2028, I'm thinking it might be time.

I've found the RX 9060 XT 16GB for just over $500 CAD, and I could likely sell my 3060 to help cover that cost. While the 16GB VRAM of the 9060 XT might be a bit slower, I believe the gap in performance between AMD and Nvidia has tightened significantly. Plus, I hear the enhanced features of AMD GPUs work nicely with AM4 processors.

Still, my 3060 has been performing well, and I wonder if it's wise to keep it longer or if I'd regret this decision down the line if I miss the chance to upgrade. What do you all think?

Totally agree! The 9060 XT will blow your 3060 out of the water in ray tracing and path tracing. AMD's RDNA4 architecture is a game-changer and really closes the gap with Nvidia, making this upgrade well worth it, especially given the impending GPU crunch.

For sure, upgrading to the 9060 XT is a no-brainer! If you're anticipating price hikes, this is likely the best time to jump on it. You’ll have much more power at your disposal.

It's definitely a reasonable upgrade given what you're currently using. Just out of curiosity, what monitor are you using right now? It might help to figure out if the upgrade would really benefit you based on your setup.

I have a dual-monitor setup. My main one is a Pixio PX248 Prime Advanced 24" Fast IPS 1080p. SKU is PX248PA.

Upgrading to the RX 9060 XT is a solid choice. It's about 60% faster on average compared to your 3060, which is a noticeable boost! I wouldn't stress too much about the Intel B580 since it's only a marginal step up—around 20% from what you already have. Plus, the 9060 XT pairs well with your setup, especially if you're gaming a bit more demanding titles in the future.
