Hey everyone! I'm planning to upgrade my gaming PC, especially since I've fallen behind on the latest tech after welcoming our little one. I've recently acquired an RTX 3080 and have 32GB of DDR4 RAM. However, my power supply is pretty ancient—almost 10 years old! I'm considering switching out the motherboard and getting an AMD CPU along with a new power supply, but I'll keep the other components. I have a couple of questions: 1. What's your recommendation for a CPU, motherboard, and power supply within an $800 budget and an unrestricted budget? I'd like to mix and match based on price. 2. Is it worth getting DDR5 RAM now, or will my DDR4 suffice? I really want to avoid needing to replace the motherboard again soon if DDR4 becomes inadequate. Appreciate any insights, and feel free to ask if you need more info!

For AMD options, definitely look into the 5700X3D. But if you're open to Intel as well, an i5-14600K is worth considering, especially if you find a good deal.
If you're sticking with DDR4, the Ryzen 7 5700X3D is a solid choice for your setup. It’s compatible and gives great performance for 1440p gaming. You might come across the 5800X3D too, which offers better performance but can be a bit tough to find at a reasonable price. Just keep that in mind!
The 5700X3D can be a bit scarce too, so keep an eye out!
Go for that Microcenter bundle! A 7800X3D with RAM and a solid board is a great call! I made the switch recently and it's been fantastic! 👍
I second the Microcenter bundles! If you can find the 7800X3D bundled with RAM and a motherboard, that’s a fantastic deal. Just got one myself, and it’s an absolute game changer! It’ll fit nicely into your budget with plenty left for a power supply upgrade.
Nice! That's an awesome setup!
Given that you already have DDR4, it’s wise to stick with it for now. You’d also want to check your motherboard specifications; if you’re currently on Intel, switching to AMD means a whole new motherboard is necessary. If you can, check out bundle deals at your local Microcenter for great prices on RAM and CPUs, usually around $600—leaving you room in your budget for a decent power supply too!
They even had the 7600X3D for $200!

I'll definitely look into that!!
