Is 90-95 Degrees a Normal Temperature for Ryzen 7 9800X3D?

Hey everyone! I built my first PC about two months ago with some help from a friend, and everything was going great until recently. I noticed that my CPU, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, is hitting temperatures around 90 to 95 degrees Celsius while gaming, but it cools down to around 50 degrees when I'm just browsing the desktop. I've already checked my fans to make sure there was no plastic covering them and all connections seem fine. Is this temperature range normal for this CPU? If not, do you have any tips or solutions to help me cool it down? Here are my specs:
- GPU: Sapphire Pulse RX 9070 XT 16GB
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- Motherboard: MSI B850 GAMING PLUS WIFI
- Power Supply: Corsair RM850x 2024 PSU
- Storage: 2 X Samsung 990 PRO 2TB M.2 SSD
- CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE
- Case: Fractal Design Meshify 3 Black TG Light Tint
- RAM: Kingston FURY Beast Black 64GB Kit (2x32GB) DDR5-6000
- Fans: 1x back rear fan ARCTIC P12 Pro A-RGB (exhaust)
2x top ARCTIC P14 Pro A-RGB (exhaust)
3x front ARCTIC P14 Pro A-RGB (intake)

If you regularly max out your CPU temps like that, you probably need a better cooler. A quality AIO could help bring those temps down significantly; the Peerless Assassin might not be enough for your high-end setup.

I've heard that cooler is pretty solid, though. Are there specific AIOs you’d recommend that outperform it?

I agree, but still, it feels off for a 9800X3D to max out a Peerless Assassin. Maybe check your thermal paste application too.

I run my GPU overclocked and it's undervolted, idling at about 40 degrees and 55 when under load. You can definitely lower your temps if you optimize your setup!

Your CPU is rated for a max of 95 degrees, but hitting that limit means it might be thermal throttling. Have you checked whether you accidentally left any plastic covering on the heat sink?

No, it's not normal for those temps. You could have used too much thermal paste or tightened your cooler too much. Make sure to snug each screw evenly until just thumb tight without forcing it.

First thing you'll want to do is to remount your cooler and reapply thermal paste. It sounds like something is off with the contact between your CPU and cooler.

Definitely start there! Reapplying the paste is often a game changer.
