Hey everyone! I recently made the switch from Windows 11 to Linux, opting for Nobara because it comes with drivers and other essentials preinstalled. I'm running this on a Ryzen 5 2400G with a GTX 1660 Ti and 16GB of RAM. While general browsing works fine, I've been experiencing a lot of issues when opening and closing apps: the system becomes unresponsive or laggy, which is really frustrating. I've also installed a few Flatpaks like Discord and Chrome, along with Steam and other gaming launchers. Is there a workaround or a FAQ that could help me optimize my fresh installation for a smoother experience?

I get where you're coming from with the lag—sometimes it feels like there's a delay when switching apps or closing them. Just to clarify, are you sure you mean "unresponsive?" Maybe your system is fine, but it’s just that Nobara is not optimized for your use. Checking RAM usage seems smart; if it’s not fully utilized, the lag might stem from the distro itself.
You might be running in power-save mode, which can slow things down. Check the settings to see if that's the case! Also, try looking into this migration page for more tips if you're having trouble: wiki.nobaraproject.org/general-usage/additional-software/falcond.
Sounds like you might need to consider whether your current setup is the issue. You mentioned it's a dual boot, so how much free space do you have? If the drive isn't loaded up, that's great, but also consider trying different distros like Fedora or Mint. Nobara may just be too resource-heavy for your needs. I've had similar issues with it, and switching to Zorin worked wonders for me.
Switching to Garuda made my experience way better, and I ditched Windows altogether after a month!
A lot of users report issues with using Flatpaks on some distros — they can feel slower compared to native packages. If you find it consistently laggy, maybe consider trying out a distro without Flatpak reliance to see if that helps.
From what I've gathered, Nobara often comes packed with a lot of programs aimed at gamers, which might be dragging your system down. A more streamlined distro could potentially give you a smoother experience. You could always dive deeper into various forums and threads about optimizing your installation. Good luck!

I completely relate! Nobara was nothing but problems for me too, ended up back on Windows within a week.
