Why Am I Only Getting 90-95 Mbps on My 2GB Internet Plan?

I recently got upgraded to a 2GB internet plan and set up a new modem and router that support 2.5GHz. Despite this, my speed tests are only showing download and upload speeds between 90-95 Mbps. I've used CAT 6 cables, but I'm not sure if one might be faulty. The modem I have is a Hitron Coda56 and the router is a TP-Link Dual-Band BE3600 WiFi 7, with a Realtek 2.5GbE internet card. Also, my modem only works when it's connected directly to the router and doesn't provide internet when plugged directly into my computer. I'm wondering if the issue might be with the cables.

Are you connected via CAT6 or wirelessly?

I’m using a new wireless CAT6.

But I also get the same download and upload speeds even when connected via CAT6 from my router.

Make sure to check the ends of the cables connecting your Hitron and TP-Link. Ensure the cable has eight conductors and is in good condition—sometimes, damaged cables can cause speed issues.

Keep in mind that just having a 2GB plan doesn't guarantee you'll see those speeds, especially if the server you're downloading from can't provide them. What speeds do you get when running a speed test?

Running a speed test shows 93 Mbps down and 94 Mbps up.

What device are you using at the endpoint? Both your modem and router should handle 2.5 Gb speeds without issues, so check if the problem is with your device, or if your ISP hasn't upgraded your plan yet. It’s worth a call to them to check!

Before switching to the 2GB plan, I was on a 1.2 GB plan, and I had to change my router and modem since they were capped at 1GB.

You might want to try a new cable. I faced a similar problem where I thought I was using a suitable cable, but after switching it out, my speeds drastically improved. My new cable turned my trickle into a torrent!

I've already ordered two new CAT 6A cables; they should arrive tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!
